Staying on a Private Island

For a truly remote holiday this is ideal - the island has great walking, bird and wildlife, and fabulous picnic spots by the sea. The Isle of Skye is nearby and offers lots of tourist attractions - if you can tear yourself away from the peace and tranquility of Scalpay! Scalpay is located between the Isle of Skye and the Applecross Peninsula. It is an ideal haven if you want to escape from the pace of everyday life and want a totally different holiday experience.
There are 200 acres of pretty woodland, lochs, burns, hills and 14 miles of shoreline to explore on this quiet and secluded island. It is totally tranquil there are only 5 houses on the island. There are no pubs, shops or roads, just dirt tracks for the island's only traffic - two tractors, one truck and a quad bike. Most visitors don't leave the Isle of Scalpay and are happy to spend their holiday walking, bird-watching, swimming, enjoying picnics by the sea and generally relaxing in total peace and quiet. However the Isle of Skye is easily visited and there are lots of things to do and see on the island - castles, music festivals, local arts and crafts, and climbing and walking in the Cuillins.
You can arrange to be picked up by boat from Scalpay to go on a sealife adventure, and hopefully spot a whale or a school of dolphins. Skye has some internationally famous restaurants including Lady Claire Macdonald's Kinloch Lodge and the Three Chimneys. Island website: www.isleofscalpay.com.
