Holidays along the South West Coast of the UK

By J Middleton, North Warwickshire - Added 26th of January 2007

When visiting the south west coast of the UK, you must make a stop-off at Dawlish Warren. This beautiful is situated at the mouth of the River Exe, South Devon. According to the authors of www.dawlishwarren.co.uk - "...the site supports over 2000 spp of invertebrates, 620 plants and 250 fungi of which many are National Rarities and some species were even new to science when discovered here".

There are plenty of campsites in the local area including Peppermint Park, Leadstone Camping (recommended) and Lady's Mile. Further down the beach there is an entertainment area featuring go-cart racing, some rides for children, a bar and a few shops. Further down the beach again, you'll find the lovely town of Dawlish. Very pretty with a nice clean beach, a wide varity of shops, pubs and cafes encircling a colourful park with stream running through it.

There are many species of water fowl on the stream including the famour Black swans. I'd recommend a visit. Some might think the place a little 'touristy', but there is something lovely about the place.
